Off the Wall Stratford Artists Alliance

Off the Wall Stratford Artists Alliance is a not-for-profit organization founded 16 years ago by local artists, with a volunteer Board of Directors who administer theatre training programs. Our goal is to mentor and inspire the next generation of theatre production artists, giving professional backstage experts the opportunity to pass along, to young people, their considerable skills, experience and passion for live theatre. Off the Wall students learn backstage production arts – from specialty make-up, wig making and millinery, to artistic welding, prop building and scenic art – courses that equip them for employment in small theatres, apprenticeships in large theatres, or specializations at the university level. Since our inception in 2005, 963 students have completed Off the Wall training courses; another 805 have enjoyed weekend workshops. The Stratford Festival employs some of the country’s finest seasonal artists – those contracted by Off the Wall to teach courses during their off season. By partnering with independent theatres to build displays that benefit the entire community, Off the Wall instructors create a collaborative and innovative environment for learning.

"We were thrilled to be awarded a STAT grant to help us ensure the health and safety of our students, teachers and facilities going forward.  It enabled us to procure PPE and secure storage for it, reupholster classroom chairs in medical-grade vinyl, and build custom cubicles and dividers for each studio setting.  Quite frankly, we could not have carried on our courses without the benefit of this special funding.”
