"This program allowed us to make very important changes to the physical business to increase our safety and ability to access more customers through the Covid pandemic. Being able to offer fully accessible access to our business going forward is hugely important to us, and to all levels of government that are working diligently to make our communities safer and more accessible to all.

The real success is that this one-time investment will allow us to serve our community, and the many visitors we see each year even better than before, and for many years to come."

Robert MacLeod Russell, Owner

Project Summary

Full renovation of the existing storefront to allow for the installation of a fully accessible, touch-free, and button-operated entrance. Also replaced all front windows for better energy consumption and improved sightlines into and out of the store. This will assist in helping people evaluate capacity in the store before entering and allow staff to better monitor lineups outside when at safe capacity inside. There are also important long-term benefits to having a fully accessible entrance that will endure long after the current pandemic comes to an end.

Key Impacts

• Improved safety at the highest touchpoint area of the store.

• Fully accessible touch-free entry will benefit many by helping make our community and downtown more accessible to all.

• Improved visibility will have a positive psychological effect on customers and staff.

• Improved energy conservation will reduce costs and benefit the environment.
